Who Is This Article For?

This article is intended for restaurant owners and kitchen staff who are getting started with the botX POS Kitchen Display System (KDS) for Android.


I. Device Requirements

To set up the Kitchen Display System (KDS), please note the following requirements:

  1. It is recommended to use Android tablets to install and run the KDS application.

  2. Recommended tablet specifications:

    • Minimum screen size of 7 inches
      (A 10-inch tablet or larger is recommended for better visibility)

    • Tablets should be used in landscape mode

  3. Ensure that both the POS devices and KDS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Note:
The system automatically updates the Android operating system on supported devices when required.

III. Create KDS Login Information

To log in to the KDS app, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the KDS application.

  2. On the login screen:

    • Click the IP Address icon and select the correct IP address

    • Enter the password to access the KDS app

    • Select the Kitchen/Station that will receive cooking requests

    • Click Continue


KDS Settings Configuration

Open the menu in the top-left corner of the screen, click the Settings icon, and configure the following options to match kitchen operations:


Sound Settings

Note:
A sound will play whenever a new order is received.


Undo & Transition Time Settings

Select the Undo / Transition Time tab to configure timing rules that help the kitchen track order status.

Setting

Description

Undo Time

After a dish or order is marked as completed, the chef can undo the action once if it was done by mistake.
• Default undo time is 5 seconds and can be adjusted

Transition Time

Sets color-change timing to help the kitchen identify order status:
Caution Time: Order turns orange while being prepared
Late Time: Order turns red when it exceeds the configured preparation time
• Default late time is 10 seconds and can be adjusted

When the order preparation time reaches the configured thresholds, the order will automatically change color.


Order Display Settings

Select the Orders tab to configure how orders are displayed and handled.

Setting

Description

Auto hide finished orders

When enabled, completed orders are automatically hidden from the kitchen screen

Show menu categories

When enabled, items are grouped by menu categories as configured on the management page
• Categories can be reordered using drag-and-drop

Return one dish at a time

When enabled, dishes can be returned individually by line item instead of returning the entire order
